3 Ways to Get Creative with Paradiddles!

As drummers we are all told to learn the basic rudiments but sometimes may not be told how to use them in creative ways or develop them into our own ideas. I will show you a few ways you can improve your playing by using rudiments in new and exciting ways!                                              R L R R    L R L L    R L R R    L R L L                           Counting:   1 e & a      2 e & a     3 e & a     4 e  & a (R = Right Hand, L = Left Hand) Let's see how we can use this sticking pattern (The Paradiddle) to be more creative! #1 - Leaving 4/4 Behind: Why don't we start by trying something a little uncommon but that can be used to create some cool sounding grooves and fills in odd time signatures. If we take 4 beats of the paradiddle as 16th notes we are left with: RLRR LRLL RLRR LRLL. Now the easiest way to start getting creative in odd time signatures is to simply remove the final L (Left).
